Just after the All-Star break, the Chicago Bulls were 39-21 and the only team to hold first place in the Eastern Conference.
DeMar DeRozan was playing at an MVP level as he averaged 28.3 points in 52% shooting.

Fellow offseason acquisers Alex Caruso and Lonzo Ball provided quality two-way play without injury.
And last year’s holdovers Jack Lavin and Nikola Vusevich continue to play tough basketball.
But they went down 6-15 at 7-15M Before losing to Milwaukee Box 4-1 in the first round of the playoffs.
That team was omnipresent this past offseason, it was a disappointing finish.
And LaVine’s latest Intel could turn it into an eventful offseason for the Bulls.
Bulls must find LaVine
The highest priority for the Bulls this offseason would be to lock LaVine.
It was originally considered a premonition that the 27-year-old star would soon resign with Chicago for the maximum.
But the potential rumor that Lavin was dissatisfied with Derozan playing the second whistle has shaken things up.
However, it did not move so violently that the Bulls were no longer in the running to retain their services.
According to @ Sandiveni:
1) Many rumors about Zach LaVine are coming from his agency. “The more dramatic it is in their MO process, the better. No one talks about Zach. Now everyone. The mission is done.”
2) Most expect LaVine to return to Chicago.

Bulls should still make sure that everything is smooth with the basis of their franchise.
LaVine has made promising moves year after year on both sides of the court and is an elite offensive player.
With LaVine back in the fold, the Bulls should expect better injury good luck next year and should run it again next year with some minor rice along the margins.
That said, everything would change if Lavin bolted from Windy City.
DeRozan, Vucevic, Caruso, and Ball are all good players, but it’s LaVine who takes them to the next level.
DeRozan was the leader for three seasons in San Antonio and this led to a playoff appearance.
His supporting cast in Chicago would be better, but the Bulls will have to surround Lavin.
Poor hit luck
Chicago shouldn’t even think about starting again as they have struggled with bad hands this year due to injuries.
Patrick Williams missed 65 matches, Ball missed 47, Caruso missed 41 and Lavine missed 15.
Each team deals with injuries each year, but missing three core rotation boys 40+ games is a huge push.
Great season for # BullPride has been restored in Chicago and now we can look forward to next season, if we solve the problems and hopefully have better luck with injuries etc. We will be better next year.
Where do you think we can improve? Chat off the sound# Bulls Nation

Roll around especially during play-offs.
For the high intensity of playoff basketball, the five men on the court need to know their roles and plans.
If the courts do not have that ability to increase chemistry throughout the season, teams are more likely to make mistakes or fail late in the game.
It was clear that they had won the title together against a team like Milwaukee.
Needless to say, that was the deciding factor in the series – Milwaukee was obviously a good team.
But the lack of time to play together certainly didn’t help things.
LaVine estimates back then, the top nine people in terms of minutes of game play per year last year would be healthy and available on opening night.
Another full offseason and regular season together will make the Bulls even tougher next year.
