Star fullback Tom Trobozevic has blamed Manly’s incredible start to the season for not being good enough.
After being undefeated for the first month, Trobozevic led the Eagles to the Grand Final qualifiers last year but has not had the same impact this year after being interrupted by a knee injury.
Trobozevic did not consider last year’s Daly M medal-winning form when analyzing his 2022 efforts and simply said he needed to pick up the game.
“I wasn’t good enough this year and I need to find a way to fix it.
“I don’t have to analyze performance so much. I wouldn’t say it affects me but you know it’s there. It’s part of the game. I played some good footy last year and that’s what comes after it.
“If you want to be successful, you have to beat the top teams. We haven’t been able to do that this year and we have to find a way to be more competitive against that team and win the footy game. “
The Sea Eagles fell to a 5-5 record and ninth place after a 36-0 defeat to the Broncos last week when they failed to win a match from their five outings against top-eight opponents at Combank Stadium on Saturday night. The ability to be in the sixth place.
Joey talks to Bellamy outside of retirement
Thanks to Andrew Johns in Melbourne for signing Craig Bellamy into another season, the master coach said the former NRL star had agreed to let him stay.
Bellamy has announced that he will lead an incredible 21st season in 2023, and he said that “Joy” called him a few weeks ago when he was still deciding whether to remain as a coach or go to a part-time director in a coaching role. NRL Club.
“It took a while to get there and there were some things that stuck to the decision,” Bellamy said.
“I was a bit cornered when I chatted with Joey Johns – Andrew called me a few weeks ago and made a few points and it seemed a bit understandable to me and it led me to my decision.”
Bellamy did not want to divulge their conversation but said he appreciated the input from Johns.
“I’ll leave it between me and Joey but I appreciate that he called me and that’s what turned me on.”
The 63-year-old did not rule out coaching after 2023 and signed Storm by the end of 2026, but said he wanted to spend more time with his four grandchildren.
“I want to do some things before I get too old,” he said.
“We’ll see what happens in these 12 months and get out of there.”
Since taking over as coach in 2003, Bellamy has led the team to nine grand finals, winning five, although two were snatched for salary cap fraud.
Storm are second on the NRL ladder after 10 rounds and lost two points to defending champions Penrith in their Magic Round clash in Brisbane last week.
Former adviser Wayne Bennett has welcomed Bellamy’s decision as he prepares to coach against the Dolphins’ newcomers next season.
“I’m satisfied; if he still enjoys it and that’s what he wants to do, why would you retire?” Bennett says.
“As we get older, you will gain less knowledge. You have to have enthusiasm and passion for what you do, but you will learn something every year.
It’s a relief for Melbourne as they are set to lose a number of veterans, including captain Jesse Bromwich, his brother Kenny and team-forward forward Felice Kaufusi, all of whom will be heading for the Dolphins at the end of the year when Brandon Smith heads to the Sydney Roosters.
Bellamy’s one-year deal could affect the future of superstar playmaker Cameron Munster, who terminated his contract at the end of 2023.
