Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kellen Mond will not be the mysterious person he was in 2021.
With the introduction of a new coaching staff, Mond has acquired a clean slate and the team seems ready to take over the QB2 job. About five months ago, Minnesota coaching staff made it clear that Mond Kirk was not the “guy” for Cousin’s immediate backup.
On Tuesday, Vikings new offensive coordinator Wes Phillips was asked by reporters about Mond and his answer was encouraging for the second-year player.
And 141 days ago, former Vikings captain Mike Zimmer was asked the same question about the same player and Infamously said He doesn’t have to watch Mond on the football field anymore because he has seen enough in practice.
So, Mond either grows fast in five months, or the new coaching system has different criteria for evaluating young quarterbacks.
Overall, Mond’s progress is a startling story for Minnesota as he was eliminated from the 3rd round in 2021. As a 3rd-rounder, Mond could literally go either way as a final quarterback or career reserve player. However, with Zimmer’s coaching staff, Mond has been found to be irrelevant.
Some viewers of the Vikings even theorized Mond as one Replacement For cousins, QB1, at some point. Cousins are old, mostly obsolete, and consistently ad-hoc. By contrast, Mond is a youthful, mobile, “what could be” a beacon of youth for the future of the Vikings in the quarterback.
Shag fah fag? Okay, for the backup quarterback job, Mond will have to overtake the responsible QB2 Shawn Manion this summer. A 3rd-round quarterback would reasonably win a QB2 job, especially on top of Manion, who is non-dynamic and more obsolete than his cousins.
Most external depth charts still list Manion as QB2, but those estimates were made before this tiny wave of pulse motion. Head coach Kevin O’Connell last week Monder also praised“Kellen is having a good spring so far, working incredibly hard, digesting the system. He did a few checks on the Scrimmage line yesterday for which he was not ready to play-by-play; He just instinctively did it. These are the little things you are looking for. “
The couple’s Phillips statement on Tuesday, along with O’Connell’s remarks last week, and Mond could actually climb the Vikings’ depth chart – as people believed he would in 2021.
