Legendary New Zealand cricketer Daniel Vettori has been named Australia’s assistant coach.

It was rumored for weeks but now it is official. Daniel Vettori is the assistant coach of the Australian men’s cricket team along with Victorian Andre Borovic.

Vettori and Borovek will form a partnership with head coach Andrew MacDonald who will take over from Justin Langer after a tumultuous fall with Cricket Australia.

“I’ve worked with Daniel before and couldn’t talk much about his outlook, work ethic and the relationship he came up with. His experience and balanced style are well documented. He’s a great fit and brings a lot of knowledge to the team.” McDonald says.

Vettori has played in more than 400 international matches for New Zealand, including 113 Tests and 295 ODIs. He was an easy all-rounder who scored 4,531 Test runs at 30 and took 362 wickets at 34.

Known as one of the finest men in world cricket, Vettori was in the coaching ranks last season to lead the Birmingham Phoenix to the final in England’s domestic Twenty20. It is understood he will be allowed to continue this role at the top of his Australian responsibilities.

He was also the coach of IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore, Dublin Chief and was the spin bowling coach of Bangladesh team.

The 43-year-old has already worked with the Australian team in Pakistan for a short period.

Vettori said: “I was really impressed with the way the Pakistani team was preparing, planning and playing.

“This is a very strong and integrated group with the prospect of a very fruitful and hopefully successful period ahead.”

Borovec and Vettori will have the first responsibility to coach the team in Australia before the Test series.

With Cricket Australia’s executive general manager, high performance and national team, “Andre (Borovek) worked with the selected tour squad, including a successful Test series against Pakistan last year.” Said Ben Oliver.

“He has gone on to become a coach at the Premier Club level, from players at the Victorian Institute of Sport, Victoria and Melbourne Renegades. In the background of education, he brought a wealth of high-performance knowledge, skills and a great addition to the coaching group.
