We are in the final two for the 2021-22 A-League season. The reigning champions will face rival Melbourne City cross-town rivals Western United in the grand final of the A-League on Saturday night at AAMI Park.
Western United denied the adversity of reaching the grand final. After a 1-0 defeat to Wellington Phoenix in the Elimination Final and a 1-0 defeat to Melbourne in the first leg of the semifinals, Western United lost 4-1 to Melbourne Victory in the second leg. Their first decision maker.
This is an incredible achievement considering the club’s third season.
Melbourne City beat Adelaide United 2-1 in a hard-fought semifinal to advance to the grand final.
In the 48th minute, City trailed by Zach Chloe’s great volley. City equalized in the 63rd minute with Marco Tilio, who sent the game into extra time. Jamie McLaren sent Melbourne City to their third consecutive grand final in the 92nd minute with his close range strike.
It shows a tempting competition. Melbourne City aim to be the first team to become a back-to-back premiere and champion (second). Western United will start the Underdog, but if they played the way they did against the Melbourne victory, there is no reason why they will not win the title for the first time.
Key players include Jamie McLaren, Matthew Leakey and Andrew Nabout for City.
For United, it’s like Dylan Wengel-Halls, Neil Kilkenny and Alexander Prizovich.
Everyone agrees that Melbourne City is a favorite. They have two years of Grand Final experience and this is the West’s first appearance. Melbourne City Favorites start at $ 1.66 and Western United at $ 4.75.
Prophecy
While winning their first title for Western United will be a fairy tale and many of us would like to see it, Melbourne City will get the job done. The final score is 2-1.
