A name to watch when the Vikings move to TE2

There are no weaknesses in the Minnesota Vikings ’tough last position as of May, but if something happens to starter Arv Smith Jr., the outlook will be instantly terrifying.

Smith Jr. tore off his meniscus in the precinct last summer, pushing Tight and Tyler Conclin to the reins, who performed brilliantly for an unfinished pass-catcher. And Conclin was so good that he split his production into a shiny new deal from the New York Jets during his free agency in March,

Well, in return, if the Vikings want to hedge Smith Jr.’s injury bet before the start of the regular season, they could hardly test a free agent from Conclin’s new team, the Jets.

He is Tyler Croft and a free agent until mid-May.

Kroft was selected in the 3rd round of the 2015 NFL Draft – three picks before Daniel Hunter – and young enough to play with another NFL team. At age 29, Croft spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals, the Buffalo Bills and the aforementioned Jets.

He has played 81 career games, of which 48 have started, 1,028 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns en route. Unless he experiences a career renaissance in his eighth season, Croft is a true TE2, so he will not be considered by scholars as a signature homran. That will not be the goal.

But he will add depth to the Vikings TE room at a hodgepodge show currently featuring Johnny Mund, Jack Davidson and Ben Elfson. Croft, however, scored seven touchdowns on a massive target in the Redzone in 2017. She sure is.

Wherever Kroft signs in, he will be an affordable addition.

If the Vikings are not interested in craft but still want a backup plan for Smith Jr., Kyle Rudolph, Eric Ebron, Blake Jarwin and Jimmy Graham.
