Most of us had hoped Mike Trout would play like Mike Trout if he had perfect health; And dominated by Corbin Burns and Kevin Gaussman.
The beauty of MLB comes from unexpected stars that don’t come from anywhere.
These three players have taken a huge step forward and qualified as the most amazing performers in 2022.
3. Tariq Schubal, SP, Detroit Tigers
Detroit Tigers young star Tariq Schubel made his debut in 2020, pitching in 32 frames at a disappointing 5.63 ERA.
He took a step forward in 2021, pitching 149.1 innings with a 4.34 ERA from a volatile rookie to a solid MLB starter.
As it turns out, however, he made another big leap in 2022: he looked like a taker
So far, the solid left-hander has played a 2.22 ERA in 44.2 innings, including cowardly delivery and great fastball, validated by an incredible 2.00 fielding independent pitching (FIP).
There are two main areas where scuba diving has improved: walking and home running.
In his first two MLB seasons, he allowed more than two homers in every nine innings.
This season? He is at 0.40.
In addition, its walking rate has risen from 7.4 percent in 2021 to just 4.5 percent this year.
He is boiling in front of our eyes.
2. Taylor Ward, Off, Los Angeles Angeles
Outfielder Taylor Ward, 28, stunned the baseball world with his first-season hitting performance.
He has unexpectedly become a star this season: after hitting .250 / .332 / .438 in 237 plate appearances last year, he is at .370 / .481 / .713 on 131 plate trips in 2022.
It’s a huge jump that has made him one of the most productive heaters in a lineup that also includes Mike Trout, Anthony Randon and Shohei Ohtani.
Ward has knocked 9 home runs, scored 27 and scored 23 as of Wednesday and that’s a big reason why the Angels are fighting head to head with the Houston Astros for the AL West lead.
The best part is that Ward’s minor league performances legitimize his current success, so we’re probably talking about his ability to have something at his current level.
He has found quite a bit for the angels.

1. Nestor Curtis Jr., SP, New York Yankees
If you look at Nestor Curtis Jr.’s build, height and fastball speed, you wouldn’t imagine that he was the best pitcher in the New York Yankees rotation.
Still, we’re here, and Cortes ERA (1.80), Vince Above Replacement (1.3), and Fielding Independent Pitching (including FIP, 2.58) lead the bombers’ starters.
Yes, he had a 2.90 ERA in 93 innings last season, but very few people thought he was legit.
This year, he’s showing that you don’t need 100-mile-hour fastball to dominate the Major League level.
Curtis has improved his cutting and it has now become his most trusted weapon.
He relies on deception, speed of change, fun delivery and various arm slots and points to confuse and dominate his rivals.
His four-seam fastball averages about 91 miles per hour, but it’s one of the most valuable baseball hitters.
He knows how to pitch, he has very good command and the heaters get messed up with time.
There is no reason why the unknown hero of the Yankees cannot maintain his dominance.
The Yankees will start a series with Ray in Tampa tonight.
